Bennington Department Fights 2 Fires At Same Home
BENNINGTON, Neb. — Bill Janzen Jr. said his family returned to their burned-out Bennington home on Wednesday to see what was left. Firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze Tuesday night after they had been at the same home earlier in the day. The first time, crews extinguished a fire around the fireplace, then left when they thought it was under control.
The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the second fire, which left the house a complete loss.

Suddenly on November 16, 2007, at his home in Steinbach, Andrew Kehler passed away at the age of 83. Andrew worked for Versatile Farm Industries for 15 years.
He leaves to cherish his memory three brothers and six sisters: Henry and Mathilda, Helen and Leonard Unger, Nettie and Rev Cornie Peters, Peter and Helen, Bill and Tina, Eva and Jake Schellenberg, Anne and Rev. Jac Doerksen, Tina and Bill Bergen, Frieda and Ed Neufeld, sister-in-law, Sara Isaac, as well as 44 nieces and nephews and their families.
Norman Kenneth Kehler, youngest son of the late David Stoesz Kehler and the late Katharina Wiebe Kehler and beloved husband of 19 years of Elizabeth Dawes, was set free on October 26, 2007, after years of living with cancer. Born in Selkirk, Manitoba, on May 15, 1959, Norman lived in Grand Rapids and Steinbach before moving to Winnipeg where he learned to play hockey and football on the street with his brothers. A new restaurant aims to serve up a fine dining experience in a hometown atmosphere. horFrost, Portage la Prairie’s newest fine dining restaurant, opened on Oct. 17. It’s owner and manager, Chris Kehler, is eager to welcome Portagers with a unique menu inspired by international cuisine.

Peacefully on October 13, 2007, Katie Kehler, daughter of the late Peter Wiebe and Margaretha Krahn and widow of David Kehler, passed away at the age of 85. Born in Barkfield, Manitoba on September 11, 1922, Katie grew up on a farm near Pansy, MB. When she was nine, the family moved to Paraguay but returned to Manitoba the following year. Katie was married June 10, 1945 to David Stoesz Kehler.

William A., “Bill Sr.” Janzen, age 72, Bennington, was serenaded into Heaven by his family at home on June 22, 2007. He will be dearly missed by Doris (nee Kehler), his wife of 50 years; children, Bill and Jayne Janzen, Debbie Janzen and special friend Brian Waite, Beverly and Max Lau; grandchildren, Amy and James, Becky, Stacey, Susan and Anthony, Lianne, Vincent, Carmen and great-granddaughter Mia. Bill is also survived by sisters, Marie (Al), Eileen (Johnny), and Esther; sisters-in-law, Natalie and Tineke; many family members and friends. George J. Kehler of Steinbach, formally of New Bothwell, passed away March 22, 2007 at the age of 86.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sara M Friesen Kehler of 64 years, daughter Ellie (Ed), son Ed (Emily), grandchildren Les (Lisa), Shelly (Chris), Cory (Lilah), 5 great-grandchildren, Dale, Nicole, Emma, Bailey, and Kaitlyn. He was predeceased by granddaughter Sheila.

Breanna Hiebert beloved daughter of Bryan and Candace, passed away at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at 3 months of age.
The funeral service for Breanna will take place at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Sunday, January 14 at 2 p.m. with interment to follow at the Rosengard CMC Cemetery.
