Jason was born on May 10, 1970 to Debbie (nee Dueck) and Ben Giesbrecht at the Steinbach Bethesda Hospital. He was educated in Steinbach and graduated in 1988.
Jason was baptized upon confession of his faith on June 28, 1987. The following is his testimony at the time of his application for baptism:
“As many people around here know, I have grown up in a Christian home; so, have not found it hard to follow the Lord. I became a Christian at an early age of eight one day after DVBS. I have had many ups and downs, but my hardest trial so far had been high school. I have also found there are still quite a few students in the public high schools that are Christians. And, I am thankful for these friends I can have in school.”
Jason served for a year in the AWANA program. He loved hockey and played goalie on various commercial teams.
He died July 22, 1990 in a car mishap north of Ile des Chenes.
Funeral services for Jason will be held Thursday, July 26, 2pm at the Steinbach Chortitzer Mennonite Church with Rev. C.J. Martens and Rev. J.H. Wiebe officiating. Interment will take place at Mitchell CMC Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Corey Dyck, Mark Shoemaker, Bruce Frattinger, Brad Kehler, Steve Doerksen and Brian Funk.
Jason leaves to mourn his parents Debbie and Ben, one sister Jenessa; his grand-parents Gus & Betty Dueck; his very special friend Jen Friesen; family members Bill & Theresa Dyck, Cory and Nathan; Bob & Lucille Rempel, Garreth and Dana; a very close brother Conrad Dueck; also numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Today’s date on the calendar is but a mere reminder of the day you came into this world, in 1970. This year will mark 30 years since your early departure from this earth. Our two houses were but two blocks apart, many memories surfaced as I recall the time spent there and in between. Great memories. However, our separation is not permanent! One day the Lord will come back and Christians who are alive will be caught up to join the resurrected bodies of those who have died. “And so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
We were great childhood friends~I still can smell the wonderful wood from that Beautiful Treehouse/Shed your grandfather built and the games we played ..You were one of my first male christian friends …
